Undutchable is an interesting book, well, for foreigners to understand Dutch, especially that negative side of a Dutch. After coming to Shanghai, I realized (well, actually even before that, but my arrival here just confirmed that) we are all the same. We human beings all share the negative sides. The only difference so far is that maybe you are a bit more obvious than I am. As a Malaysian, I know our own negative side, maybe not as much as the ones listed in this book, Honk! If you are a Malaysian. No, I haven't got the book yet, which I sure hope will get a copy if I have the chance. This is what a brief introduction of the book (sorry in Chinese):用嘻笑怒罵的幽默文字,道出大馬人可愛與醜陋的一面,包括愛說不倫不類的馬式英語(Manglish)、愛遲到、搶免費餐、愛炫怕輸、“八卦”好事、隨地吐痰,使讀者捧腹大笑之餘,也反省自己每天都在扮演書中的角色,看清本身的真面目.
I want to see how a housewife author can write about us Malaysians. And, well, hopefully we can really realize and change (which I always hold a very limited hope...). I wonder, when (if) there will be a book talking about Chinese from Mainland China (after the very "notorious" book "丑陋的中国人" -- Ugly China Men). Maybe we foreigners can contribute something to it? I can think of one or two: 没有礼让精神,喜欢喧闹,爱吐痰... don't them look just like what we have seen on Malaysians and Dutch too?
I still hope we could have a book for ourselves, for our own experience and for our own memoir.
