Sony Reader is probably one of those gadgets that I really love (after PSP). I always want to try to buy some ebooks, which is the main reason I bought this ebook reader. I want to save space, and the earth (sure...). Unfortunately, Amazon has its own Kindle, thus as competitor, it makes sense that Amazon won't support Sony's stuff. Loosing the biggest online bookstore, I have to find another source. What makes it worse is that apparently Sony eBook Store, which has Borders support only provides ebooks to Americans (I don't understand what the point is for an online ebook store if it does not support global market). Luckily, there is Waterstones, which is one of the biggest bookstore chains in United Kingdom. So, there must be tons of wide variety of books available. And, I did find one that I really want to read, "Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You".
The procedure of purchasing an ebook from Waterstone is actually no different from purchasing music from iTunes Music Store. First, I have to install Adobe Digital Editions, which is free of charge (of course). After making the payment by using credit card, a file (in the format of "ETD") is downloaded, which allows me to download the DRM-protected ebook. Then, from the Adobe Digital Editions (after connected the Sony Reader with the laptop), I can transfer the ebook to the reader. For a lot of people, this process is still very cumbersome, but for a geek like me, I think it is reasonable. I am so happy to find a better way to make use of this reader, at the same time enjoy some new books in a cheaper way, and also a more quick-and-update way.

does that mean you can distribute the softcopy? just wondering how they prevent illegal distribution
well, actually that is my expertise :P they use encryption to bind the soft copy with a computer and the reader, so... without that key you cannot decrypt that... and use that
