Very first review: Philips "My Reading Light"

“我的阅读灯”是来自飞利浦亚洲研究院的第一个消费产品！我当然要支持一下。至于它的功能，肯定是诠释了飞利浦的“简于型，精于心”的思想。主要真的是用来在夜里灯光不好而且在不打扰其他人的情况下让你能不损坏眼睛享受阅读。你可以把它想成是一种用来阅读的高端手电筒。基本上它是利用了LED的技术。就让我来评评这一个gadget吧。


"My Reading Light" might be the first consumer product coming straight out from Philips Research Asia Shanghai (PRAS). So, I definitely will support! Its function definitely has encapsulated the spirit of Philips, i.e., "Sense and Simplicity". Basically it is used to read book under the condition of bad lighting, not disturbing other people, and not harming your vision. You could think of this gadget as a high-tech torch light for reading. It applies LED technology. So, let me be the first guy (I believe so) that reviews this gadget.

设计：我一直以来对飞利浦产品的质量是持有信心保证的，但是在设计方面就不敢恭维。这一次，设计方面我是觉得还可以的。如果要挑剔的话，就是那一个灯板是固定的，就是说没有伸缩性。对于不同大小的书来说，可能用起来会比较不方便。加上，虽然在底座上加了一个可以夹书的小设计，但是我觉得还是很不方便的。我想，如果有下一代的话，可以在这两方面下手。值得赞扬的是，整个gadget就只有一个切换，按久一点就是开关，按一下就是挑灯强度。
Design: I always have high confidence in the quality of Philips products, but... the design always makes me sad. But, this time, the design is certainly not bad. If you want me to pick, I would say the LED board is not flexible, thus probably could be inconvenient for different sizes of books. Additionally, even though there is a small mechanic design at the head to hold on the book, it is still can be quite inconvenient. I hope if there is a next generation, these two disadvantages could be improved. I like to praise the design of only one switch - press long to turn it on/off, press once to adjust the lightness.

功能：就是用来阅读。有三个光强让我们选择。电池是充电式锂电池，可用USB充电，这一个我就觉得很不错！至于耐电能维持多久，我还没来得及测试，我想应该还可以的，因为是利用了LED。
Function: As I said, it is a reading light. There are three levels of intensity of light. The battery is rechargeable using USB cable. And, I have no idea yet how long it would last in practice, but I trust the LED technology should be energy efficient.

耐用：可能你会担心这一个灯板耐磨吗？经过几次的测试，我相信只要不故意拿到地上或桌上去磨，肯定是耐用的。
Durability: You might be worried if the board is anti-scratching. After several prototypes, I believe unless you scratch it purposely on the floor or table, it should be sufficiently durable.

总的来说，它是一个阅读灯。设计简单，功能明了。这一点我想飞利浦是做对了。价钱只要适中的话，那应该可以和山寨版竞争的（山寨版有便宜到10RMB的！）。要我给分的话，我会给7/10！
In conclusions, it is a reading light - design is simple, function is clear. This I think Philips has done it right. If the price could be reduced to reasonable or affordable to the mass market, I think it could certainly compete with those "fake cheap" brands in China (those could be as cheap as 10RMB!). If you want me to grade, I would give it 7/10!
