Jailbreak and Unlock 3.0

Time flies. After two-day workshop at WhatIf, and then couple days of almost-nothingness, it is already Saturday. Tomorrow I am looking forwards to seeing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (expect some reviews tomorrow). So, today I have decided to jailbreak and unlock my iPhone for OS 3.0. I don't care much about the so-called rich features provided by the iPhone OS 3.0. The only feature I really want is the A2DP, i.e., using Bluetooth connection to listen to the music/phone calls without wire. Recently I have upgraded my Philips Bluetooth headset, so I want to make fully use of it, without using the redundant receiver dongle.

However, I am normally not good at this kind of stuff, kinda clumsy and impatient, unlike my best friend. He sure knows his way in this gadgetry hacking stuff. Anyway, since today I have got nothing much to do, so I have decided to give it a try (also he sorta helping me remotely). Plenty of websites, such as Simonblog and Gizmodo (the two information I have used for my process) have provided quite extensive and comprehensive step-by-step instructions to do that, with pictures. So, I am not going to repeat their processes here, but I will give a piece of my experience here. I have tried at least 3 times before really getting it done. So, probably it is good to share the problems I have and potential solutions with some of you.

Upload the OS 3.0 first! This I found quite critical. Apparently, Gizmodo somehow didn't mention anything about that, so I assume it could be done without such hassle. And, it proved me so wrong. My suggestion is to follow the instruction from Simonblog (from step 1 till 5), then continue with Gizmodo instructions. The problem I was having without doing this step is that I kept stuck at the "Downloading Jailbreak Data" screen on the iPhone. Also, some of the information I have found on the Internet claiming that "right click on redsnOw and 'run as' as admin" should help too. Anyway I am sure it will work if you pay attention at this (well I am the living proof)! I am glad now that I could really make use of the Bluetooth headset!
