New thing for my family

A cousin of mine and her family cannot afford a laptop for her, and she needs one for her study. So since I am the lucky one among my family and relatives, I have decided to get my cousin a laptop. In fact, this laptop could also be given to my brother, depending on which laptop my cousin needs. Anyway, this also gives myself an excuse to get a new laptop. At this moment, seems to me Asus seems to be the only company (other than Acer, HP, etc.) that has small, compact and reasonable-price laptops. The series is called Eee PC. And, as usual there are just too many models under this series.


At last, I have picked up Eee PC 1000HD has a 10 inch LCD screen and has a 2.5 inch standard notebook hard drive. Although the notebook has a 10 inch display the resolution is 1024 x 600 same as 8.9 inch models. It comes with more than enough hard disk capacity, namely 160GB, and 1GB of memory. Battery is always the shortcoming of the Eee PC series, and this one can only last up to 4 hours maximum, and if you play video/music the whole time, probably it could only last up to 3 hours. It is about 1.45 kg (including the battery), so in a way, it is still consider quite ultra-portable. Too bad though, it does not fit into those small chest bags that I have purchased a while ago.

In overall, with the price tag of under 3000 RMB, I am quite happy with the machine. Also, I am quite surprised the adapter is quite small, which does not occupy a big chunk of space in all sorts of bags. The speed of the processor is fast enough, and to my big surprise, much faster than the stupid Dell I am using for my work in the office. Anyway, it worth the price with the specs. I think my brother/cousin would love it. And, for my selfish thought, I could still use it till the day I go back to Malaysia.
