No where to go...?

我也很坦白的告訴大老板,“I have nowhere to go”。

首推Rihanna的”Fire Bomb"和“Photographs”,再推Keri Hilson的“Knock Me Down”和“Alienated"。接下來是Akon的”Be With You“和”Freedom“,還有最近才發現他的B.o.B和他的兩首“Don't let me fall”和“Airplanes”。

最近還考慮入手“Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker”,還有非常期待即將來臨的“Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep”和“Valkyrie Chronicles 2”。

我的哲理是: no matter how shallow or trivial or meaningless it is, find something in your daily life that can cheer up your boring routine a bit, then it really worth it!

Songs that I love, and why...

I am sure everyone of us has a song or two that is kept playing on our MP3 players or stereo systems, or like myself on my Playstation 3. These four songs somehow have become my must-play list, in the gym or while I am working or on-the-go. Somehow, in addition to their rhythm or lyrics or melodies that I enjoy, they have coincidentally become a remembrance in my life in these 2 years.

I remember well Beyoncé's "Halo" because that was when I met a bottleneck in my career in January 2009. Somehow, I was seeking for a breakthrough, and yet not really finding one. That's when I was quite upset and angry constantly. Well, you could ask my Shanghai colleagues about my constant "fire". This song somehow calms me, and reminds me of all the other good things around me. I guess I wasn't a very happy person back then.

Then, in August 2009, I first heard Keri Hilson's "Knock You Down" when I first came to Hong Kong for business trip. I was here for 2 weeks. And, this song was being played over and over on VH1 or MTV. Back then, it was a beginning of a big change for my career, thus this has become a mark of milestone for me. Of course, it really is a nice song!

Then, in mid of September 2009, I moved to Hong Kong. And, that's when I know about Leona Lewis and her "Don't Let me Down". I like the surge of the song, and well, even though not really following the lyrics, but the title is cool. I don't let myself down!

Last but not least, I heard Rihanna's "Fire Bomb" on MTV in end of January of 2010. I am currently having a big problem at work, which is still unsolvable yet, sadly. The bass and the drum of this song, and her "scream" somehow really burst out all the stress in me! Cool song, and kinda a mediating song for me now!

For me, music and life are really tightly knit. There is no way to separate them, and somehow whenever I am not so having a good time in my daily life, He always has a way to give me some musics! Thank You!

My reminder nowadays -- from jeers to cheers instantly

After so many times of watching the clip, still love it, still touched by her wonderfully angel voice, still reminding me there is hope in this cruel world, and still cheering me up in this taunting life with bad economy... I watch it every night before going to bed... Just fantastic to watch her singing again and again...

Listening to "easy listening" to destress

I think I know Enigma (Official Site) from this one song, "Return to Innocence" a long long time ago, when I was still in Britain (probably, I am losing my memory nowadays). I think I haven't listened to any Enigma since then recently. Then, I found this album, and I guess it is the latest album from Enigma. And, frankly, maybe because I am under a lot of stress lately, it is really a nice album. Even though Enigma's music can be creepily terrifying sometimes (honestly, sometimes I got the cold down my spine when listen to the music), yet, this time they are quite soothing and relaxing. In fact, quite to my surprise, there are some "pop" element in this album, such as the song "Boum-Boum", and I quite like it! Other recommendations would be "Sitting on the moon", "Sunrise", "We are nature", etc.

Kanye and Brandy

I am not a big Black R&B fan, cause I am not a big rap fan. But, well, I am not entirely accustomed with R&B culture. So, who cares? As long as the music is nice, then for me they are good. That's why I gave Kanye West and Brandy a try. Perhaps, I didn't expect much, and that's why out of my not-much expectation, both albums are of quite high quality. Out of 12 songs of Kanye's "808s & Heartbreak", I must say there is only one song that I don't really enjoy, the one with the so-called freestyle rap. The others are quite nice. The music compose is interesting in a way it more focus on the drums. Not much bass not much noise, drums are the main role, and I quite like it. If you like me to recommend, I think I will say Robocop, Say You Will and Love Lockdown.

As for Brandy's "Human", man, she is good. OK, she is not that "wild" or "multi-talented" as B-you-know-who. 15 songs (boy, you know compared to those Chinese albums, foreign albums seem to be more worth the money) in one album, and all songs are just nice - very easy-listening, relaxing, and Brandy certainly has a good vocal voice! While writing this blog, I am listening to "Long Distance", and damn this song really is fantastic. Of course, other songs such as "Human", "Camouflage" are just equally nice! At this bad economic depressing time, certainly some good music with good voice without too much noise could really cheer up a bit!

A simple and angelic voice

How do I know Josh Groban? I think it was from one episode of Ally McBeal. And, yeah he does not look very special, in fact quite very down-to-earth, a normal-looking American guy I would say. But, his voice is his strong selling point. his new album is (literally) A Collection of his great songs. Frankly, at first when I heard him sing, I thought he was... faking the voice, so I wasn't really comfortable with it. But, then I was totally wrong! It was very relaxing, in fact sometimes quite aspiring to listen to him sing, like an angel singing down from the heaven. There are 17 songs, some of which are Spanish (or Italian, I am not so sure). Of course I have some favourites such as "February song", "You are loved", "Awake", "To where you are", etc. I think it is a great escape from all the other pops.

English: Recently the people I have had contact with is of quite wide variety - from all LVs to all no-brand. LV certainly is a luxurious brand that no one in China does not known. Walking on the street full of tourists in Shanghai, you would be approached by some people asking you if you want an LV bag. Most people because of vanity would buy fake LVs. Therefore, don't be surprised if you see some aunts wearing pajamas carrying an LV bag buying stuff in market. When I think of LV, I think of some of my friends or friends' friends. We are certainly from different levels. We common people have several shared worries, and most of which really surrounding "money". There is an old Chinese saying, "money is not omnipotent, but without money you are impotent." Especially lately due to bad economy, we from middle-down class people certainly could feel the negative waves. However, the upper-class people still have the money to buy LV, buy house, buy car. The word "money" is certainly a taboo to a lot of people. They mind people say they are loaded with money, but most other people mind they lack money. Sometimes, I wonder when I have become so freaking shallow, but, when you think of it, without money how can you be deep? Therefore, I sometimes really miss the lifestyle in Netherlands. I don't see a lot of people carrying (fake) LVs, but still they are quite content with their life. Let Jay Chow tell us what the real meaning of happiness: "还记得你说家是唯一的城堡 [still remember you said home is the only castle] 随着稻香河流继续奔跑 [running following the river of paddy fragrance] 微微笑 [smile] 小时候的梦我知道 [I know the dream from childhood] 不要哭 [don't cry] 让萤火虫带着你逃跑 [lets the fireflies help you run away] 乡间的歌谣永远的依靠 [song from home is support forever] 回家吧 [lets go home] 回到最初的美好 [go back to the beautiful beginning]"

Jay is here again

English: After God-knows how many months, and how many so-called concert CDs/DVDs, finally he is going to release a new album. Today, his first song 《稻香》is released to all big radio stations. And, of course, you could already listen to this song on YouTube. Set aside the questions if the style has changed (basically still his strongest selling point), any breakthrough or not (sometimes I wonder what sort of breakthrough he could have), the lyrics are quite good. It is about "fight for dreams", "don't give up", "feel satisfied with what you have", "going home", "growing up", "appreciate everything you have", "true meaning of life is to stay happy", etc. Anyway, this song is very easy-listening. Probably that's why my good Freddie really loves his style, and becoming his number one Dutch fan.

Beijing Welcome You

Even though the Olympics Game has finished in China, but the songs are not. This one is quite good, in the sense that easy to sing along, and sung by tons of singers from Mainland China, Hong Kong China, Taiwan China, and Singapore (yupe, no Malaysia...).

The lyrics:

And here is the rest of it.

Let me go home....

But, where is home...?

Two albums of two genre

Thanks to SK/0617, I actually have almost forgotten about Alanis Morissette. After her big bang first album "Jagged Little Pills", I think I haven't heard any of her songs for a while, really a long while. I totally agree with SK/0617's comment, "it is like she has come back with another bang" on this album. Somehow, I do think this one has exceeded her first album, which is a good thing in fact. Well, the song that I love most out of this album is definitely not of her familiar style, which is "Giggle Again for No Reason". But, the song just hit me, probably because of its soft-techno beat. And, again, this song from my point of view has dug up another side of Alanis, another vocal style of her unique voice.

Because of the gym keeps playing her only song "Umbrella", which somehow fits into the mood of doing gym, leaving a deep impression in my brain. So, I have decided to try her album, a very stranger R&B singer artist for me, Rihanna. Her latest album "Good Girl Gone Bad". Frankly, I didn't really hold much expectation or anticipation to this album mainly because somehow from my own personal point of view, R&B shares the same core, and thus, sound similar to me. Well, I am not wrong actually. In this album, only the big hit "Umbrella" stands out for me (probably because I have listened to it in the gym too many times). Others are just... very vague to me after listening. One surprise though, Maroon 5 actually re-sang one of their hit songs, "If I never see your face again" with her. The chemistry is surprisingly nice, and fresh. Nice trial to put two different genre artists into one song seamlessly.

Coldplay's music is chilling

Coldplay is a name that I am not familiar with. I actually mixed up their name with Radiohead. I actually thought these two bands are the same. Maybe because both of these groups are alternative rock bands from United Kingdom. I first heard Coldplay's music was a while ago when I was still in United Kingdom. I actually disliked it back then. Thought it was very... dark, messy, aka not-pop. I guess the older I get, the weirder my taste in a lot of things changes. I heard their song again when I watched Cold Case. After putting in some effort to google download and try a lot of their songs, I found out the title - "Fix You" from their earlier album "X & Y". I guess I was really touched by the song (well, the ending of the Cold Case episode somehow mix very well with this song).

So, I wait for their new album to release, i.e., "Viva La Vida". Just listening it for the first time, I totally fall in love in this album. There is no point to point out which song I like most, cause I like them all. All the songs are chilling (the sense that I get), some even quite dark. The composition of the music is well-done (even though the vocal probably is not that mainstream). Alright, I would recommend "Life in Technicolor", "Lost!" (definitely!!), "Yes", "Viva La Vida", and "Violet Hill". I enjoy listening to their songs (soothing), while reading (currently) Congo on my Sony Reader. That makes the whole frankly-very-annoying-uncomfortable-shuttle-bus journey so much joyful!

Sugababes change!

They have become my favorite since I have listened to their song "Lost in You". Their music for most people are, well, swallow pop meaningless... but for me they are good soothing relaxing. Of course not all of the songs are masterpieces, not even the world-wide-known-best Madonna could pull that off. So, when they have a new album, I just want to try that out. And, well, they didn't disappoint me at all. Out of 11 songs, I like almost 60% of them. Let's see. "About you now" is definitely my favorite - very pop rhythm but does not lost the uniqueness. "Change" is another song I really like - well, not so pop-y, yet I like the way they sing it... I don't have a word to describe it... "Surprise" is the third song - even though the lyrics are hmm... idiotic, but who cares, the music is good, just like those karaoke songs. Last but not least, "Mended by you" is like a sequel of "Lost in you", so of course it will be in my favorite list! Anyway, I guess comparing to Madonna's Hard Candy, I think I prefer this one (sorry to those Madonna hardcore fans).

Jan is I think the only person that could really speak for the young generation in Hong Kong, even though he is over 30. He is definitely the icon. Even though he does not have a very outstanding appearance, does not have a singing voice, but the style of his music and the speak-to-the-truth lyrics definitely are what make him who he is today. I hardly listen to any Cantonese songs nowadays but his I definitely love. I certainly could relate myself to his songs. This time, he is going to tell us his thought. Even some of his thoughts are cliche (like talking about stress of life, environmental issue, etc.), but from my point of view, this type of cliche is certainly much more meaningful than those love you love to death cliche.
